Tosaint Ricketts was born in Edmonton, Alberta on August 6, 1987.

At a very young age his parents separated and he was raised by a single mother. Not having a stable financial situation made his dream to play professional soccer very difficult. With the help of family friends, Tosaint didn’t give up on his dream. He started playing organized soccer at the age of 13 for local club team, Edmonton Juventus.

His talent and passion created new chances for Tosaint. He got scouted for the U-15 Alberta Provincial team, he moved to Chile for one year to train with professional team Santiago Morning, he got called for the U-17 Canadian National Team and later on for U-20 World Cup team and U-23 Olympic team. Tosaint started his collegiate career at University of Wisconsin Green Bay, where he received a full scholarship.

Ricketts started his professional soccer career playing overseas in countries like Finland, Romania, Norway, Turkey, Israel, and Lithuania, all while being an active member for the Canadian Men’s National Team. The soccer journey wasn’t easy for Tosaint, he encountered a many obstacles along the way, from the financial insecurity of not being paid on time to facing extremely hostile environments. Regarding the circumstances, Tosaint evolved professionally and personally by adapting to new cultures and new soccer styles. His love for his country brought him back to Toronto where he made history with Toronto FC. Winning 2x Canadian Cup (2017,2018), 2017 Supporters Shield, and 2017 MLS CUP. In Tosaint’s time in Lithuania, he won the 2019 Lithuanian Super Cup, 2019 Lithuanian Cup, and 2019 Lithuanian League Champion. Tosaint is currently a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps, arriving only 8 games before the end of the 2019 season. Whitecaps picked up Tosaint’s option for the 2020 season.

Off the field, Tosaint’s vision is to help inspire the next generation of Canadian soccer players. Ricketts wants to start a Foundation in his name to help kids who lack financial stability and struggle to follow their dreams to play sports. Tosaint is owner of Tosaint Ricketts Academy, where his goal is to train and guide the next generation of aspiring young professionals.
